From Joe and Patricia Doogan: Report of the Scots' gathering to celebrate Don Bosco's Feastday:
Once again we had a large gathering of the Salesian family here in Scotland for the feast of St. John Bosco.
On Sunday 4th.February the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Cooperators and the Shrigley Old Boys met in the parish of St. John Bosco in Easterhouse, Glasgow.
After meeting up with old friends we had our Mass concelebrated by Fr.Hugh Preston SDB and Fr.Charles Garick SDB, both coming up from England bringing the one and only Bro. Donald McDonald SDB. A Scottish Old Boys' reunion wouldn't be the same without him.
The music was sung angelically by the children from St. Vincent De Paul in East Kilbride led by Maria Novani. They certainly created the spirit of Don Bosco, the highlight being psalm 34 ' Taste and see '
After the Mass the Shrigley Old Boys held a brief meeting to organise our social calender for the year, with four dates to be found (including our trip to Shrigley in September )
Old Boys present; Greg Bell, John Bergin, John Clark, Michael Crossan, Terry Devine, Joe Doogan, Brendan Gill, Vincent Gill, Felix Gilfedder, Jim Hughes, John Meehan, Bill McEleny, John Moran, Michael Pratter, Joe Quinn, Lindsay Reid.
Apologies; Tony Quinn, Louis Skehal, Vincent Mochan, MIchael Brady;, ohn McArthur, Fr, Bill Bergin.
During the elaborate buffet we were able to mingle with old friends in the Sisters and the Cooperators and, of course, regale each other with our exploits while at Shrigley.. Roll on next year.
